Make a Noise in Libraries fortnight

Fri, 24 May 2013

Make a Noise in Libraries Fortnight 2013 will run from 3 to 14 June. Libraries across the country are busy organising events and preparing to launch new services for blind and partially sighted people.

MANIL is one of the Six Steps, which 187 out of 206 UK library authorities have pledged to undertake to improve what they offer for people with sight loss. This year’s MANIL theme is 'Signposting' - working with libraries to make it easier for people with sight loss to get hold of books, newspapers and magazines in accessible formats.

Many libraries are holding reading surgeries, information days and drop-in events and alerting their frontline staff to Reading Sight and the Your Reading Choices online tool. Other activities include author talks, storytelling and ebook taster sessions to name but a few. Blind and partially sighted people will be visiting or contacting their local library to ask for reading advice and will feedback their experiences to RNIB.
