2011 Jodi Awards Shortlist

We're very pleased to announce that Reading Sight has been shortlisted for this years Jodi Awards!

This year’s shortlist invites us to use existing technology to widen access to information and collections for disabled people more effectively and creatively.


The awards are given by the Jodi Mattes Trust whose mission is:


"to promote the cultural equality of disabled people through the use of accessible digital media; the provision of accessible information and learning content; the involvement of disabled people in the process of creation, design and evaluation of digital media."

The UK Jodi Awards will be given on 1 December at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea, after the free Jodi Awards seminar ''Digital access for disabled people in the 21st Century museum,archive and library''. From 4 November: programme and bookings.

The other wonderful shortlisted projects are:

Touch Pods by Access to Heritage Project, Mencap Liverpool
Touch Pods makes the microscopic world of wildflower seeds accessible to wider audiences, including people with learning disabilities. Recorded sound is part of the multisensory experience created for the National Wildfllower Centre, Liverpool.


Inclusive Communication Essex (ICE) by Essex County Council, Libraries
ICE has extended its resources to support people with a learning disability develop communication themselves. It provides a number of resources, including 200 signs for inclusive communcation developed by children and young people


PenFriend Audio Access at M Shed by Bristol Museums, Galleries and Archives
MShed uses the affordable RNIB PenFriend audio-labeller to give visually impaired visitors audio access to hundreds of stories at Bristol’s new city history museum. RNIB PenFriend has been designed to record self adhesive voice labels on a wide range of items at home, at work, at school.
