Library activities

Libraries are about much more than just supplying books and information. Reader services and reader development provide many opportunities for customers to participate in a wide range of activities, events and programmes. These enhance the library experience and provide enrichment and fun.

Reading groups - sometimes called book groups these can take place in the library or can be virtual online chat sessions. Some are organised for or can include visually impaired people.

Children and young people activities - libraries organise a wide range of activities and events for children from baby rhyme sessions to young adult book groups.

Book festivals and events - across the country there are many opportunities to meet writers and other readers. Your local library will be able to give you details of local events as well as the major festivals such as Hay, Edinburgh, Manchester and Oxford. The Reading Agency has an online calendar of events that can be searched by region Link.
