Case Studies

We would like to use Reading Sight to highlight examples of good practice in improving library and reading services for blind and visually impaired people. Please tell us about your work in this area. If you have any reports or other documents we will be pleased to add them here.

NEALIS is a partnership of the 12 public library authorities in the North East of England, RNIB, Calibre Audio Library, ClearVision Project, National Blind Children’s Society, and the University of Northumbria. From 2009 to 2011 the NEALIS project made relatively straightforward interventions which have worked. These are applicable to other public library authorities. Practice such as engagement with volunteers, using the RNIB’s Penfriend, consultation days with staff and blind and partially sighted people are low cost solutions which can make a difference to people using our public library services.
